Defining Barriers to Higher Education in Your Community

Training beyond high school, whether it’s a credential, a two-year degree or a bachelor’s degree, prepares workers for good jobs. However, in many communities, various obstacles may prevent people from continuing their education or getting additional training. When these challenges go unaddressed, communities can face a shortage of skilled talent to meet industry demands and a decline in local economic growth.

In this webinar, participants will gain a framework for recognizing barriers and hear strategies for building consensus with community partners to ensure alignment on key issues. Specifically, participants will:

  • Identify a barrier to earning a credential or degree and use data to elaborate on that challenge
  • Deepen their understanding of what is preventing that barrier from being addressed
  • Learn how to build momentum with local partners to solve this challenge

Chamber professionals who want to work collaboratively in their communities to grow a skilled talent pool are encouraged to participate. This workshop is offered with the support of the Kresge Foundation.
