2026 Spring Designing Employer-Driven Career Pathways

Chambers are increasingly being asked to help employers solve persistent workforce challenges, like skill misalignment, unclear career advancement routes and fragmented regional talent efforts. Many businesses know they need to communicate growth opportunities to attract and retain workers, but they often lack the time, structure or tools to map out clear career progression. Educators likewise struggle to align training with real progression and growth in local industries.

Career pathways offer a clear, practical way to show how workers can progress from entry-level to higher-skill roles, which competencies matter most, and how skills transfer across jobs and sectors. When done well, they boost retention and recruiting by giving employees a transparent view of their growth options. They also help employers pinpoint the skills required for each role, making training investments more targeted and aligned to business needs. With clear pathways in place, companies can more easily spot talent gaps, plan for succession, and anticipate future skill demands—critical advantages in fast-changing industries. Chambers are uniquely positioned to unify these efforts by bringing employers, educators and partners together to build pathways that reflect real regional needs.

The Designing Employer-Driven Career Pathways training gives chamber professionals the tools to:

  • Collaborate with businesses to document roles, skills, credentials and transition points
  • Build accessible pathway visuals that support employers, job seekers and educators
  • Guide employers on how to use pathways to strengthen talent pipelines and retention strategies
  • Update pathways as in-demand careers and industries change
